August 8th: Peterhof Palace.

It is a 45 minute ferry ride from where our ship is moored to Peterhof Palace.
The Peterhof Palace is a series of palaces and gardens located in Petergof, Saint Petersburg, Russia, commissioned by Peter the Great as a direct response to the Palace of Versailles by Louis XIV of France.
We disembark our ferry at the bottom of the extensive gardens (Lower Park) which we must walk through to get to the palace.

Monplaisir:
Peter the Great's pet project at Peterhof was this small but charming summer palace, which the Tsar designed by and for himself, although he sought the help of several architects to do so. If you arrive in Peterhof by boat, Monplaisir is one of the first sights to greet you.

It was a rather swish looking ferry

We arrive at the Great Cascade in front of the Palace. Unfortunately no pictures were allowed of inside the palace.
